A Better Way to Have Wars
A war is a tragic, ugly, destructive thing. Boys, who have little to do with the underlying reasons for going to way, kill each other. Bombs destroy culture, hospitals, neighbourhoods. Worse, the reasons for war are often ridiculous (but not in a funny way). Russia invaded Ukraine because of the delusions of one man: Vladimir Fucking Putin.
My feeling is that if political leaders want to fight wars, let us let them fight -- each other. Let us recreate modern coliseums based on those designed by the Romans. Then we put the leaders of warring countries, along with their cabinets and parliaments (or congresses), into the coliseums – and let them fight to the death, or at least until one leader or the other gives up.
This way our youth need not sacrifice themselves to the idiotic whims of pathetic leaders. Innocent collateral damage need not be an issue, cultural landmarks, schools, hospitals are all unharmed and, such contained battles would have huge entertainment value. So, wars would generate income rather than hoovering it up.
Moreover, if political leaders had to put their own lives on the line, they'd surely think twice before launching a war against another country.
